Maharashtra to release 17,000 prisoners

To decongest the cell, the Maharashtra government has decided to release  17, 000 prisoners as per recommendation by the high-powered committee. There are 35,239 prisoners in the state. This decision has been taken keeping in view of  Coronavirus pandemic situation in the state. Maharashtra has been the worst affected state in the country.
