Gujarat makes Gujarati mandatory in all schools

The state’s Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama in the state Assembly on Tuesday announced that it is mandatory for all schools in the state to teach Gujarati to students of Classes 1-8 from the next academic session.
The minister said that “Irrespective of the board they are affiliated to, including the CBSE, ICSE, IB, CISEC or IGCSE, teaching Gujarati will be mandatory for every school in the state,”.

He also said that Gujarati will initially be taught as an “introductory language” in Classes 1-2.
