BCCI Hopeful to Play IPL 2021 in India

With one of the most challenging editions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) now coming to an end, there is a lot of concern regarding the next edition.   Many are unsure whether IPL 2021 will take place in the first place.   But if the words by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are anything to go by, then fans have a reason to remain optimistic.

The 14th Edition of the IPL is set to take place between March and May next year, but a host of changes are expected.  After the threat posed by COVID-19, the BCCI decided to shift the IPL T20 13th edition to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Things are, however, set to take a different direction with the BCCI President hopeful that the 14th Edition of the tournament would be back in India.

That said, here are some of the things you need to know about the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League.

 UAE Still Remains an Option

Despite the BCCI being hopeful about bringing the 1PL 14 2021 back to India, they will first have to consider the situation of the pandemic.  With the COVID-19 virus still causing a threat to the life of many, the success entirely depends on the health of players.  For this reason, they’ll only host the tournament next year if there is a conducive environment in the country to curb the spread of the virus.  Failure to that, chances are they may have to organize the next edition in UAE.

Power Play Rule

The Indian Premier League is widely known for its innovations in an attempt to make the sport even way better.  In next year’s edition, the BCCI may make a small change in the Power Play rule in line with what the Big Bash League has introduced.  Just in case you have may have no idea, the ‘Power Surge’ in the BBL comprises of a two-over period with which the fielding team is only allowed two players outside the inner fielding circle.

On the other hand, the battling side is free to call for this at any point of choice from the 11th over of the innings.  Also, the Power Play is reduced to four overs.  It is, however, not clear whether the IPL is going to introduce the ‘Power Play’ rule in the next edition.  For that, we only have to wait until everything is made clear by the BCCI.

The Bottom Line

Although 2021 is a year full of cricket activities both locally and internationally, fans should expect the 14th edition of IPL to take place.  After all, India’s popularity in the world of cricket is due to the success of the IPL.  Actually, many cricketers from all around the world dream of being part of the cricket league of India.  Fans should therefore maintain high spirits since the BCCI was able to pull off a successful tournament even when many least expected that to happen.
