BJP faces setback in Maharashtra, leading in 1 out of 6 seats

The Maharashtra Legislative Council polls reveal that BJP has lost majority of its stronghold seats, and is ahead in only 1 out of 6 seats.

Mumbai, 4/12: Bhartiya Janata Party(BJP) is pushing hard towards a setback in the Maharashtra Legislative Council Elections. BJP lost power in Maharashtra last year where it had won initially in a coalition with Shiv Sena, but differences couldn’t be resolved and in the floor test, BJP lost to its former ally which had now joined forces with the opposition. As per reports, BJP is ahead only in one seat, whereas the ruling coalition of Shiv Sena, Congress, and Nationalist Congress Paty(NCP) called the Maha Vikas Aghadi(MVA) is ahead in 4 seats and the other seat has an independent candidate on the lead.

BJP seems to have lost its stronghold seats, the graduate constituencies, especially in Nagpur, which was represented in the past by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s father Gangadhar Rao Fadnavis. The current elections were seen as a show of strength between Shiv Sena of the MVA and BJP after leaders of both sides collided on several issues and controversies in the past few months.
