PM Narendra Modi to lay foundation for new Parliament building Today
PM Modi will perform ground-breaking ceremony for the building which is expected to be completed by 2022 at an estimated cost of 971 crore.
New Delhi, 10/12: The foundation for a new parliament building will be laid today by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The special event will be attended by leaders from various political parties, cabinet ministers, and ambassadors of various countries. PM Modi will also perform the ground-breaking ceremony. The new parliament building is expected to be completed by 2022 with an estimated cost of a whopping 971 crore.
Features of the new Parliament Building:
– The new building will have an area of 64,500 square meters.
– The new building will also have a grand Constitution Hall to showcase India’s democratic heritage
– A lounge for members of Parliament
– A library
– Multiple committee rooms
– Dining areas and ample parking space
– The Lok Sabha chamber will have a seating capacity for 888 members
– Rajya Sabha chamber will have a seating capacity for 384 members
– The Lok Sabha chamber will have an option to increase its sitting capacity to 1,224 members during joint sessions.
This has been done keeping in mind the future increase in the number of members for the two houses. Present capacity of Lok Sabha is 543 seats and 245 for Rajya Sabha.
