Balasore, 17/12: India successfully test-fired Prithvi II ballistic missiles off Odisha coast on Wednesday. The trials of the DRDO-developed nuclear-capable surface to surface missiles were successful.
Earlier on December 1, the anti-ship version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile developed by DRDO with a strike range of 300 kilometers successfully hit its target ship in a test-fire.
The Prithvi II ballistic missile is capable of carrying 500 to 1,000 kg of warheads and is powered by liquid propulsion twin engines, defence sources said. It uses an advanced inertial guidance system with a manoeuvring trajectory to hit the target. The missile of 9-metre height was the first to have been developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) under the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme of India.
