New Delhi, 1/1: Decision on the approval for the emergency use of the coronavirus vaccine will be taken today by a government-appointed panel of experts today. Application on the emergency use of the vaccine was submitted by Serum Institute of India, Bharat Biotech, and Pfizer.
Serum Institute which is making the vaccine ‘Covishield’ developed by Oxford University and pharma major AstraZeneca, Bharat Biotech which has partnered with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for its ‘Covaxin’. Pfizer has asked for more time for their presentation.
After the vaccines are cleared by the expert panel, the applications will move to the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) for final approval. The government wants to start administering the shots starting this month.
