BJP suspends councilor convicted of bribe arrested by CBI

Manoj Mehlawat, councilor from Vasant Kunj under South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), was arrested in connection with an Rs.10 lakh bribery case, officials said on Friday.

New Delhi, 5/12:  Adesh Gupta, the Bhartiya Janata Party(BJP)’s President of Delhi, suspended a councilor from the party after the said member was arrested by CBI on charges of bribe. Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said councilor Manoj Mahalawat was suspended from the primary membership of the party by Mr Gupta immediately after the preliminary inquiry report came in. “The party has zero-tolerance towards corruption,” he said.

Manoj Mahalawat, councilor from Vasant Kunj under South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), has been arrested by the CBI for having connections to a case of bribe of Rs.10 lakhs, as reported the investigating officers on Friday. The councilor demanded the bribe to approve the permission to construct a house without any hindrance, as per the official sources. The arrested councilor was produced before a special court which sent him to judicial custody. The agency caught him red-handed, officials said.
