New Delhi, 29/12: Total of six cases of mutant coronavirus strains was found in India. Six people who traveled from the UK have tested positive for new strains. The new strain is believed to be 70 percent more infectious.
Three patients are in NIMHANS, Bengaluru, two in Centre for Cellular & Molecular Biology, Hyderabad, and one in National Institute of Virology, Pune. All of them are kept in isolation in government-run healthcare facilities. Their close contacts have also been put under quarantine.
Out of 33,000 passengers that arrived from the UK between November 25 and December 23, 114 were tested corona positive.
The mutant coronavirus strains were found in the UK first. India has prohibited airlines to operate in the UK. People returning from the country have to clear the coronavirus test in the airport.
