SC tells all parties to publish details of political parties

New Delhi, 13/2: In a historic decision, the Supreme Court has ordered all political parties to publish the criminal history of all candidates on the website and in the print media.

The court said to the parties that Information on cases, offenses and trial stages should be published on party websites and local vernacular newspapers, as should the reasons behind candidate selection.

These details must also be provided to the Election Commission of India within three days of a candidate’s appointment, it said.

If the information is not submitted to its authorities or posted online, the Election Commission can initiate contempt of court proceedings.
